What is a Momentive Software alternative?
A Momentive Software alternative is another AMS, a system you build yourself, or a layer that sits beside the Momentive product you already run. Momentive’s association products, including Nimble AMS, run dues, events and the member directory. The options differ in what happens to the applications, surveys and comments around those records.
What changed
- Momentive bought Personify in January 2026, creating a group it puts at 37,000+ client organizations (Event Tech Live).
- Its own guidance on silos is to collect and manage member data in one central location in an AMS and audit it every three to six months.
- At ASAE Annual 2026, associations described moving data by hand between systems and asked for connected data (ISG Solutions).
- AI made reading text cheap, so teams now read member comments and documents themselves instead of leaving them unread.
What did associations say at ASAE Annual 2026?
ISG Solutions reported that associations at ASAE Annual 2026 were “ready for technology to work smarter”: the conversation moved from trying AI to asking where it saves staff time and where a person must stay involved. ISG Solutions, September 2, 2026.
The same write-up says most associations run several systems that do not talk to each other: an AMS, an event platform, a learning system, email and community tools. The need it describes is for those systems to work together, not for another tool. Staff described hours lost moving data by hand and reconciling transactions. It also says clean, connected data is what AI, personalization and analytics depend on, and that human connection remains the core of what an association offers.
Read that as a test for any platform on your shortlist: does each person stay one person across your systems, and can your own team ask questions of that data without a specialist?
Where is the bottleneck?
One person builds the member report and everyone else waits. The data sits in the AMS, the event tool, the learning system, the email platform and a survey tool, and that person joins it by hand.
A dashboard answers the question you had nine months ago. The board now asks which members are starting to drift away and why, and that needs applications, survey answers and comments on the same person as the dues.
Why are teams doing this themselves now?
Teams used to send member survey text to a research vendor or leave it unread. Reading text is now cheap, so they do it in house.
The questions also changed. They span years and sources: who attended, who earned the credential, who left feedback, who renewed. Answering them needs the same person across every source.
What should decide your choice?
Eight things to check on your own data, in this order.
1. Self-driven: your team, not a specialist
Staff should not need a specialist to ask the question. The test is whether your membership or research lead can build a form and read the results alone.
Ask each vendor to show a non-technical person doing it on your data.
Who does this well
- Momentive (Nimble AMS): the page describes built-in dashboards for membership, events and financials. That is reporting on membership activity.
- MemberClicks: lists customizable forms and member surveys with dues and event tools.
- Sopact: your team builds forms, reads results and asks questions without a specialist or an IT ticket.
2. One record per person: survey, note, document, attendance together
A person is a member, an attendee, an applicant and a survey respondent. The test is whether those are one record.
Momentive’s strength is one record when everything runs inside its stack. The gap is evidence that arrives from outside it.
Who does this well
- Momentive (Nimble AMS): shows every member interaction connected in Salesforce, and its event registration syncs registration data to member records. Strong when the work happens in the stack.
- YourMembership: combines member management, events, learning, a job board and a community in one platform.
- Sopact: one Contact ID per person. Applications, assessments, surveys and event feedback attach to it. Each chapter sees only its own records; the network sees the whole.
3. Volume: reads all of it, not a sample
Reading a sample misses the member who mattered. The test is whether every open answer and file is read.
The pages we reviewed describe counts and dashboards. We did not find a description of reading every open answer. Ask to see it.
Who does this well
- Nimble AMS, iMIS, Fonteva: the pages we reviewed (Nimble, iMIS, Fonteva) describe reporting and dashboards. We did not find open-text reading; ask.
- Survey tool plus a spreadsheet: fine for a small set of responses. Ask who reads the rest.
- Sopact: reads every answer and every document, not a sample.
4. Longitudinal: finds the same person next wave, on a Contact ID
Members change over years. The test is whether next year’s answer attaches to the same person.
Email addresses change. A persistent ID survives.
Who does this well
- Momentive (Nimble AMS): the page describes tracking engagement and renewal signals, which is history for membership status.
- Survey tools: can resend a survey. Ask how waves match when an address changes.
- Sopact: finds the same person in the next wave on a Contact ID rather than an email address, with the AMS member ID stored beside it so results can go back to the AMS.
5. Qualitative: reads what people wrote, with the quote
Comments explain why members stay or leave. The test is whether they are read and kept with the member.
Ask for ten real comments themed, with the quote under each theme.
Who does this well
- Momentive (Nimble AMS): describes AI-powered insights that surface member risk signals and trigger renewal workflows. We did not find comment reading on the page; ask.
- MemberClicks: mentions member surveys on its home page without describing analysis of written answers. Ask.
- Sopact: reads open text as it arrives, groups it into themes and keeps the quote with the record.
6. Documents: reads uploaded files, not just form fields
Applications, reports and certificates are evidence too. The test is whether uploaded files are read, not only form fields.
Give the vendor one real application packet and ask for a scored summary with sources.
Who does this well
- Nimble AMS, iMIS, Fonteva: we did not find document reading described on the pages reviewed. Ask.
- Spreadsheet plus an AI chat tool: works on one export at a time. Nothing links the file to the member.
- Sopact: reads uploaded files such as applications, reports and certificates, with the source cited.
7. Assistant: anyone can ask in plain language and see sources
Momentive is investing in AI. The test is whether anyone can ask about survey text, applications and members together, and see sources.
A good answer names the records behind it.
Who does this well
- Momentive: says the Personify purchase reinforces its focus on AI-powered solutions, naming MomentiveIQ.
- General AI chat tools: answer from whatever you paste in. They do not know who a person is or what they may see.
- Sopact: anyone on the team can ask in plain language and see the sources. A chapter lead who asks sees only that chapter’s records.
8. Reliable: reproducible and traceable
A board member asks where a number came from. The test is whether you can repeat it and click through to records.
Ask the vendor to run the same question twice and show the source rows.
Who does this well
- AMS reports: reliable for transactions you can count. Ask how the same discipline applies to text.
- Spreadsheets and chat tools: depend on the export and the prompt of the day.
- Sopact: answers can be checked against the records behind them, and the result is more consistent and auditable than pasting an export into a chat tool.
Where does each option stop?
Each of these does its own job well. The table shows where to test the rest on your own data.
| Option | Best at | Where it stops |
|---|---|---|
| Momentive Nimble AMS and Personify | Dues, events, billing, directory and reporting; a large portfolio in one group | Applications, comments and documents on the member record: ask to see it on your data |
| MemberClicks / YourMembership | Mid-sized and smaller associations that want one platform | Same check: evidence beyond forms and counts |
| iMIS / Fonteva | Broad member platforms, including Salesforce-based Fonteva | Same check, and an implementation project if you replace |
| Sopact Evidence layer | Evidence on one Contact ID beside the AMS; chapters scoped; text and documents read | Not an AMS: dues, billing and ticketing stay in your AMS |
Can you keep Momentive and add to it?
Yes. Keep the Momentive product for dues, events, billing and the directory, and add evidence beside it. Load your member list from an AMS export or a CSV and match on email and member number. Each person gets one Contact ID, and the AMS member ID is stored beside it so results can go back to the AMS.
Applications, assessments, surveys and event feedback then attach to that one record. Chapters see their own data while the network sees the whole.
The limit: Sopact is not an AMS and does not run dues, billing or ticketing. Scheduled connections to Momentive products, bulk reports per member or chapter, and segments pushed back to the AMS are what’s next, not available today. Until then the exchange is a file your team prepares from an AMS export.
Frequently asked questions
What are the alternatives to Momentive Software?
Another AMS such as iMIS or Fonteva, a system you build yourself, or an evidence layer beside the product you already run. Which fits depends on whether your problem is transactions or evidence.
Is Sopact a replacement for Nimble AMS or Personify?
No. It does not run dues, billing or ticketing. It holds applications, assessments, surveys, documents and comments on one Contact ID beside your AMS.
Is Momentive Software the same company as SurveyMonkey?
As far as we know, no. The names are similar but we found no link between them. Check each vendor’s own site.
Can we use both?
Yes. The AMS stays the system of record for transactions and Sopact holds the evidence. The AMS member ID is stored beside each Contact ID so results can go back.
What should we ask any vendor to demo?
Ten real comments themed with their quotes, one application packet read, the same question asked twice, and what a chapter lead can and cannot see.
