A fictional association combines annual member updates, event feedback and a voluntary follow-up study. Some responses are anonymous; others link to members and related contributors.
Use these fictional inputs.
- Annual member returns; registration-linked event surveys and later follow-ups; organizer documents and external survey imports; occasional research or support surveys. A research variation links consenting participants and related respondents across waves.
First thought: Which member or event question must the network answer together—and which questions should local teams keep?
What this course covers
Association-led research belongs here when the association’s goal is understanding and serving its community. This is broader than membership administration.
Agree purpose, essential definitions and access before collecting. The lesson order deepens those practices; it does not postpone them.

When tools stay separate
An annual survey export, an event spreadsheet and a separate research file must be reconciled each time.
The connected approach
Plan each source around its purpose and relationships, so an authorized team can ask across periods without rebuilding the member context.

A simple one-off survey may need no more than a form. This course is for work where evidence accumulates and must stay usable. Existing systems can remain sources; agree and test the relevant imports and access before relying on them.
