The implementation centres on keeping company information and impact evidence attached to the same record.
As the portfolio grows, the context needs to travel with it
American Heart Association Ventures supports companies working to improve health. Its Social Impact Funds focus on social drivers of health, including food security, healthcare access and economic empowerment.
For the team, understanding an investment means bringing together more than a company profile. Meeting notes explain the business. Documents describe its activities. An impact plan establishes what change to look for. Updates add evidence over time. When those pieces live apart, each reporting cycle starts with another round of assembly.
Start with the company record
AHA Ventures partnered with Sopact to connect this work as its portfolio expands. The engagement brings together information held in Affinity, spreadsheets and documents around a persistent company record. The aim is to keep the original context available when the team prepares an impact plan or interprets a later update.
The implementation includes initial data seeding and mapping existing Social Impact Fund information to a shared set of fields and indicators. Keeping company identity consistent is the foundation: a new document or assessment should add to the company’s history.
Turn onboarding evidence into an impact plan
The planned workflow uses company documents and conversation notes to help prepare draft logic models and indicator definitions. Staff review those drafts with the company, connect them to the fund’s priorities and agree on what evidence will be useful.
This gives the team a practical way to carry what it learns during onboarding into the reporting plan. The source material remains part of the context behind the proposed outcomes and measures.
Keep company updates connected to portfolio questions
As reporting develops, the same company record is intended to support individual and portfolio views. A portfolio question can then be explored alongside the evidence and definitions behind each company’s contribution.
The roadmap also includes broader analytics connectivity and potential use by additional Ventures teams. Those are later stages of the engagement. This story describes the implementation approach; it does not report a measured reduction in cleanup time or completed deployment of every integration.
Carry the decision context beyond the award
The connection to grant and application workflows is the handoff into ongoing learning. Information gathered during review becomes useful again when an organisation agrees on outcomes, collects an update or explains progress to a funder.
For teams facing the same handoff, explore how Sopact’s Applications & Grants workflow connects review evidence, the award rationale and the reporting plan.
